Kindermusik Term 3, 2017

Kindermusik Cuddle & Bounce for Babies (0 – 12 months)
Cuddle & Bounce is a joyful music experience – a rich community of sharing and learning for you and your little one, with emphasis placed on sensory exploration, beat, rhythm, movement, vocal play, listening and bonding. Each week you and your baby will enjoy a unique blend of musical learning activities that engage all the senses and stimulate your baby’s developing brain – promoting language, physical, cognitive, social and emotional growth.

Unit Theme 1) Nighty Night!
The loving interactions that define your baby’s bedtime rituals are the inspiration for this unit. Enter the musical world of dreams and lullabies as we explore a variety of dreamy and playful activities with a special focus on your baby’s visual development. We’ll explore a huge range of baby safe instruments including baby bells, shakers, chime balls, scarves and drums. So, slip off your shoes, take a deep breath and share the ‘I love you’ of Nighty Night! by saying, playing, listening and singing with your little one.

Unit Theme 2) Mama Goose
Share the gift of language, song, play and movement with your baby in this playful unit based on the Nursery Rhymes of Mother Goose. You and your baby will enjoy a variety of songs, rhymes and dances that will help you establish an engaging, joyful, language-rich environment for your baby at home.
Class Story: Hickory, Dickory, Dock

Kindermusik Sing & Play for Young Todders (1-2 years)
Sing & Play provides a warm and welcoming introduction to music, immersing your young toddler in rhythm, song, rhymes, instrument play, movement and steady beat activities to nurture his growth and development. Class activities encourage your toddler to explore and experience music with their whole bodies and to respond in their own ways, while your active participation gives them the security they need to join in all the musical fun.

Unit Theme 1) Family All Around Me
For toddlers, ‘family’ is everyone who loves them – family, friends, and other loving caregivers who look after them and shape their days. Family All Around Me celebrates these bonds and offers lots of opportunities for fun, connection, movement and instrument play.
Class Story: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

Unit Theme 2) I Can Do That!
There’s so much your little one still needs help with, but so many new things within their grasp! This delightful unit will help you to boost your child’s skills and confidence through a range of fun, musical, language enhancing activities. We’ll explore a range of age appropriate instruments including bells, drums, mini rainboshakers and scarves and introduce you to activities to support your young toddler’s growing body and mind network.
Class Story: Watch Me!

Kindermusik Wiggle & Grow for Toddlers (2 – 3 years)
For your toddler, every day brings new opportunities to explore the world – Wiggle & Grow recognises your child’s need for both the freedom to try and the assurance of your support. Class activities invite your toddler to uncover an engaging musical world while building confidence, self-control, social and communication skills. Singing, imitating sounds, rhyming, and object identification foster language skills, while creative movement develops a sense of balance, timing, and spatial awareness.

Unit Theme 1) Family & Friends
Family, friends and music, three of the things that bring joy to our lives come together in this delightful unit. Listening to Grandma and Grandpa on the phone, feeling the energy of the market with Mama Paquita and playing along with classic strains of Handel’s Rigaudon are just some of the activities leading us to explore social development and pattern recognition in this delightful unit theme.
Class Story: Flip-Flap Sugar Snap

Unit Theme 2) Marvellous Me
At this amazing developmental moment, your child is basking in the comfort and security of your care but also testing the boundaries of his/her independence. Suddenly able to do so many new things on their own, they are still dependent on you for so many others. In Marvelous Me, we’ll move our bodies, use our senses, explore friendship, favourite things, and feeling good about all the amazing things your toddler can do.
Class Story: Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes

Kindermusik Laugh & Learn for Preschoolers (3-5 years)
Laugh & Learn combines your preschooler’s natural love of music, storytelling, and imaginative play with age-appropriate activities that introduce early music concepts and foster independence, social and emotional skills, language growth, and self-control. Each week provides your preschooler with one uninterrupted session of imaginative, musical play that is guided in a very specific, sequential way. Musical concepts and skills needed to succeed in learning and instrument are gradually developed and reinforced.

Unit Theme 1) Let’s Play
Let’s Play mixes favourite toys of childhood with the magic of music and pretend play. A pretend walk to the park develops into problem solving, cooperation, and instrument play. Familiar childhood toys like teddy bears, Jack-in-the-boxes, balls, and spinning tops are nestled into this unit along with luscious vocal play with silly words and rhymes. Happy times are ahead as we take a ride on a train to help us learn about accelerando and about slowing to a stop. Lesson foci of pretend play, cause and effect and prediction, and learning in a group help you to learn about the ways children learn to create, assemble, and understand their world as they go about their play.
Class Story: Golden Bear

Unit Theme 2) Carnival of Music
Step right up to A Carnival of Music! Children are compulsive music makers – they hum while they play, sing along with the music in the car and love the opportunity to use wooden spoons and pots from the kitchen as drums. The music and activities in this unit will invite children to play and become comfortable with a variety of instruments; to expand their natural tendency to sing and move and support the development of a strong musical foundation for future enjoyment and pursuit.
Class Story: Shoofly Pie

Kindermusik for the Young Child (5-7 years): Semester 3 continues on from Semesters 1 & 2. Appalachian music is a featured musical style this semester. First, you and your child will build a two-stringed dulcimer instrument with materials that we’ll provide. Then in class we’ll learn to play chords and simple melodies on the instrument you built together. We’ll also explore rhythm concepts through dance with an introduction to the basic steps in jazz, ballet, and tap dances. Your Home Materials include dulcimer-making materials, activity cards, and music that features recordings from Appalachia, African-America, and Native American music, as well as the Western Art music of the Nutcracker Suite.
