About Music2Grow

Music2Grow offers Kindermusik classes for children 0 – 7 years & their families on the Sunshine Coast.  Small-group, weekly classes provide a warm, personal experience that encourages learning at each child’s individual pace.

Kindermusik is child centred, age-appropriate and fosters a love of music, rhythm and self-expression.

Each week in class we combine your child’s natural love of music, movement and play with age appropriate activities that introduce early music concepts and foster language, physical, cognitive, social and emotional development – and inspire a lifetime love of music and learning!

All classes are delivered by Educator/Owner Verna Hewitt (Grad Dip Ed., MA) who has a background in teaching (P-10), holds a current positive notice Blue Card and has been a licensed Kindermusik Educator since 2003.

Verna worked in several Kindermusik studios and early childhood settings on Brisbane’s northside from 2003-2007, including Kindermusik by Cathy, Ready Mr Music and Kindermusik with Leanne/Flying Fox Studios before moving to the Sunshine Coast in 2007. Verna attained her professional certification with Kindermusik International in 2007 and launched her own Kindermusik programme, Music2Grow, in the Noosa Hinterland town of Cooroy in February 2009. Music2Grow now holds Kindermusik classes across 3 venues on the sunshine coast – Cooroy, Noosa & Buderim.

More About Verna

Becoming a Kindermusik Educator was a natural progression for Verna who studied piano, violin and viola at school and is a qualified Primary School Teacher (P-10). After graduation, an interest in teaching and languages lead Verna to Japan where she participated in the Japan Exchange Teaching Programme and first discovered the benefits of using music as a teaching tool. (As a result, there are many children in country Hiroshima who now sing “The Wheels on the Bus” with an Aussie accent!) Verna also studied dance (classical, tap and modern) for almost 20 years and attained her student teacher’s diploma (CSTD) in 1991.

Verna was first introduced to Kindermusik in 2001 when she attended Kindermusik classes with her 7 month-old son. She loved the warmth of the small-group classes and the way Kindermusik supports the parent’s role in educating children. She was particularly impressed with Kindermusik’s focus on family involvement and the inclusion of quality materials for home use. (Verna found the Kindermusik home CDs invaluable for their calming and distracting qualities during long day-trips while traveling through the UK with her 20 month-old son in 2002!)

Verna has been a licensed Educator for the past 12 years.  She also served on the committee for the Kindermusik Educators Association of Australia and Kindermusik Advisory Board from 2004-2008 and 2016 – current. Verna believes that her journey to masterful teaching is an ever-evolving, life-long process and takes the opportunity to attend professional development seminars and to connect with her Kindermusik peers whenever possible.

When asked why she joined Kindermusik, Verna replied with the same response we get from many of our educators – to balance family life with a job she is passionate about. She began teaching while 4 months pregnant with her second child and loves the flexibility being a Kindermusik Teacher allows her while raising a family. She loves the relationships she develops with her Kindermusik families, the warm social environment, and the constant rewards of seeing a child’s musical growth. Described by her Kindermusik families as “wonderful”, having “great energy” and “tremendously generous”, check out Verna’s Kindermusik classes in Buderim, Cooroy and Noosa on the Sunshine Coast.

About Kindermusik

Created by early childhood music educators and informed by the latest research in child development, Kindermusik programs provide early childhood learning opportunities through innovative music and movement curricula that involve families in the joy of their child’s development. The Kindermusik curricula blend the music-education philosophies of music educators such as Carl Orff, Zoltan Kodaly, and Shin’ichi Suzuki with the developmental research and pedagogical approaches of Lev Vygotsky, Jean Piaget, and Maria Montessori.

For 40 years Kindermusik has been and still is the world’s most respected name in musical learning for young children. Every aspect of the Kindermusik program is grounded in these core beliefs: every child is musical, every parent is the child’s most important teacher, the home is the most important place for learning to take root and grow, and that based on research, music nurtures a child’s cognitive, emotional, social, language and physical development.

From birth through seven years of age, with the caring guidance of a trained and licensed Kindermusik educator, your child can grow with Kindermusik without pressure to perform, only encouragement to explore, express and discover. You’ll see a developmental evolution in language skills, literacy, listening, problem solving, social skills, self-esteem and musicality!
