Kindermusik Term 4, 2016

Kindermusik Cuddle & Bounce for Babies (0 – 12 months)
Whether your baby is five weeks or five months, this class will be perfect for you! With age-appropriate activities for newborns, crawlers and walkers, this parent-child music and movement class will help you strengthen those early parent-child bonds, understand your baby’s development, and focuses on communication with your baby. You and your baby will enjoy instrument play, dance, exploration time, and together time—and you’ll get expert advice and parenting resources based on the most recent research in baby development.

Unit Theme 1) Music Makes My Day
Have you ever thought of how your day flows in a rhythmic and almost musical pattern? – The waking of each morning; the routines that we follow in preparing our families and ourselves for each day’s journey. In Music Makes My Day we capture these daily rituals and routines – everything from bath time to Mummy or Daddy’s arrival home from work – through a variety of songs, chants and instrumental selections. Class activities will help you bring more rhythm and routine to your baby’s day, as well as help develop lasting learning skills. We’ll show you how and tell you why music can help your little one soothe into the day’s schedule and help build a strong body and mind network for learning. Class story: The Rhythm of My Day

Unit Theme 2) Bluebird, Bluebird
Bluebird, Bluebird is a sound-rich ‘flight of fancy’ into the sky, where you’ll explore birds, feathers, and the outdoors. Join the birds as they sing, tweet, and peck around in springtime; hear the sounds of bees and baby birds coming alive in the summer; and follow the flight of the wild geese in autumn. Vocal play is our focus in this unit. We will use the sounds of birds and other animals to help to develop baby’s hearing and emerging vocal skills, and we will introduce sign language to further enhance the communication between baby and caregiver. Class Story: Birds of a Feather

Kindermusik Sing & Play for Young Todders (1-2 years)
Get ready to sing, play, and move with your little one in this music class designed to be just right for your young toddler. This Kindermusik curriculum focuses on your child’s beginning movement, helping to build the muscles your young toddler needs to walk, run, and climb; and on vocal development, helping to nurture your child’s speaking and singing voice. Explore all the fun of singing, swaying, laughing, and playing with your little one with just the right mix of early-childhood vocal play and language development, together time, and music and movement activities! Plus, the fun (and learning!) continue with the Kindermusik@Home digital home materials, including music from class, musical activities, and each unit’s story.

Unit Theme 1) Around the House
Learning begins at home and in Around the House we explore everyday home activities – everything from cooking to play-time to bath-time – made fun with music! The songs, dances and rhymes in this playful unit have been specifically chosen to focus on supporting your young toddler’s early stages of make-believe and pretend play; we will play and sing to “The House Cleaning Blues”; bounce and bake to “Pat-a-Cake”, scrub in the tub to “Rub-a-Dub-Dub” and rock and relax to “Home Sweet Home”. Class Story: My Dog Rags

Unit Theme 2) Way Up High
In this playful unit we will experience the opposing concepts of High & Low and Fast & Slow as well as focusing on your toddler’s developing spatial awareness as we swoop and flutter, play instruments and use our bodies and voices to explore Way Up High! Class Story: Butterfly, Butterfly

Kindermusik Wiggle & Grow for Toddlers (2 – 3 years)
This music-filled class celebrates the unique joys of your growing child. Each week your child will love singing, dancing, and playing instruments with you and her new friends and you’ll love helping her practice a wide variety of abilities such as gross and fine motor skills, turn-taking, social skills, and active listening. In class, we’ll also share tips and ideas for using music throughout the week. Plus, the fun (and learning!) continue with the Kindermusik@Home digital home materials, including music from class, musical activities, and each unit’s story.

Unit Theme 1) Pet Parade
A parade of animal characters feature in the story, activities, and songs of this playful unit—each specifically chosen for your toddler’s emerging interests and physical skills. Animal sounds, which are so appealing to children, naturally prompt imitation and provide abundant focused listening and vocal play opportunities. We will use our bodies and imaginations to gallop like horses, scamper like mice, “swim” our hands, and fly scarves like birds—all the while developing motor skills, vocabulary, creativity and empathy. Class Story: Animals on Parade

Unit Theme 2) Up in the Sky
We’ll use our imaginations to fly kites, stretch like clouds, and dance like stars. We’ll hop and fly with a flock of robins, soar with a wise old owl, and see the silver moon boat sail across the sky. We will sing, dance and play instruments in an environment that focuses on your child’s whole learning experience and invites them to respond and gain mastery in their own ways. Class Story: Mister Sun

Kindermusik Laugh & Learn for Preschoolers (3-5 years)
Each week in class we combine your preschooler’s natural love of music, storytelling, and imaginative play with age-appropriate activities that introduce early music concepts and foster independence, social and emotional skills, language growth, and self-control. We also connect you with other parents who share in the wonder of parenting a preschooler. Parents and siblings join class for the final activities. The Kindermusik@Home digital home materials bring the music, activities, and each month’s story everywhere you go. The repetition enhances the learning—and the fun!

Unit Theme 1) In My Garden
The sun is shining, birds are singing, insects are buzzing and critters are sniffing, wriggling, chirping, hopping, and burrowing. We’ll buzz like bees, fly like butterflies, and sing like birds to discover the hidden delights of our backyards through listening, singing, movement, and pretend play. Come along—it’s a beautiful day In My Garden! Class Story: Sweet Pea in the Garden

Unit Theme 2) Make Believe
Where can you go to see pirates, castles, dragons, dinosaurs, and more . . . all in one place? That’s easy—your imagination! Climb aboard the S.S. Pretend and set sail to imaginary places in the land of Make Believe. You will dance the pirate’s treasure dance, visit Royal Island and the castle of a king and queen, and even meet a friendly dragon. Class Story: Rupert the Wrong-Word Pirate

Kindermusik for the Young Child (4.5-7 years): Everything your child learns later in semesters 2, 3, and 4 begins with this early introduction to singing, reading, and writing music and rhythm. Through dances and games that focus on rhythmic development, we’ll learn a keyboard instrument—the glockenspiel—which will be used throughout all the Young Child classes. Your At Home Materials provide the music, instruments, stickers, and activities for a home version of the same playful activities you’ll hear about from class, so your child—and you!—can learn where you’re most comfortable: at home.

Term 4 Monthly Mini Themes:
Weeks 9-12: The Melody of Nature: Birds sing to us with many voices and songs. Melody is the part of music that we want to sing. The language of melody starts with games about high and low. Join us for songs, imaginative play and instrument exploration, all exploring MELODY.
Weeks 13-15: Glockenspiels – Pre Keyboard Skills! Musical learning for kids who are 4-7 is all about experiencing music through play and HANDS ON exploration. In this unit we use the pre-keyboard instrument called a Glockenspiel to organize and expand learning about steady beat, melody, and rhythm.
